They stated that Chernarus uses 1 million objects, Armed Assaults Sahrani used 300 thousand. And Takistan will be somewhere in between, that must be good for those who upgraded specs from Armed Assault. ------------------ Steam CommunityHERE

That was quick, and it's going to be a full priced game too because of its standalone nature. No complaints with USARMY kit, Apache has my juices flowing, maybe they'll add the other stuff people have been asking for (Wish list time!) like the F16, Mi-28, DPV, Bradley, L96A1 (Please god yes), suppressed sniper rifles, G3, M113, Stryker + Variants, modular aircraft? (Weapons loadout menu?), littlebirds, Kiowa, B1B Lancer, F15/E, the super hornet, LCACs (Although it sounds more like it'll be in a landlocked desert...), Boeing 7XX series troop transports, tank recovery vehicles, Seaknight, Super stallion, chinook, implement fastroping (+1 for derailing thread and turning it into a wishlist for A2:OA kit ).
I guess it means that ARMA2 content devs will be ripping VBS2 stuff for ARMA2, which means higher quality and more features, in addition to the engine actually getting a proper work over. How long do you lot reckon it'll take? Will we see it before the end of the year (They've been working on it since january apparently) or is it a 2010 affair?

I wouldn't put money on even half of those wishes As for higher quality / more features for content? Don't count on it - all the vehicles in ArmA+ArmA2 were taken from VBS2 - they just dumb them down / remove features and positions for a commercial release.
As I said on AusArma - so long as the AH64D is in there, I really don't care what else is in it, you'll find me in that thing regardless of whatever everyone else is doing.
Not sure I like it being standalone though

This is looking Good from what i have read and by the sounds of it you will be able to use USMC and US Army together which will be good for the mission editors. unfortinualy i can't see Air power begining a big thing prob only be 5 or so different aircraft but then again thats what mods are for but here hoping.

Hey - theres a longbow - you don't need 500 aircraft when you have one of those.

I don't see myself forking out another $50-80 for what is nothing more than an expansion pack. If they offered 2 versions, 1 as standalone to get new players in and 1 as an expansion I could see some benefit but why not just do the expansion pack and sell more copies of ARMA2!

looks good, with a bit more funding they could make this game even better. but i agree, don't like the standalone part. its possible its a rewrite of the entire engine but its unlikely. as long as its made by BI and IDEA games don't mess with the formula it cant be that bad.

Found out it's standalone, but similar to the CoH expansions, if you have original ArmA 2 the expansion will integrate the 2 games together. So they aren't 2 seperate games, it just means you can buy one or the other if you so wish... only problem I can see is that it will split the community much like QG did with ArmA.

Can easily run it the same way we did with QG - have it enabled and you'll only need the expansion when missions using the addons are run.
Private server will probably end up giving it a good flogging
Needless to say once ACE2 is released the servers will run that as a given, so no need to seperate that one.

AH64D FTW!
Hopefully this (or the next patch), stops everything from looking like it's been shrinkwrapped.

I hope what you found is Gospel Swordy. I was hoping it would be like CoH OF (Grand game that CoH, by jove! Love relic and THQ. Destroy all Humans was great fun on the PS2!.). But don't most expansions etc, cause contention upon relese? What the heck is going to happen in a months time when ofp2 is out? Got my preorder in. Keen much? Such is life, it's unpredictable.

It's already slated for the same release date as OFP:DR.
Known facts from BI -
Quote:
The expansion will be called Operation Arrowhead (obvious )
It will take place in Takistan, a fictional Middle Eastern country, 3 years after Harvest Red (ARMA 2 campaign)
The BLUFOR side will include the US Army, there may be other members too.
It will be stand-alone - you will not need the original ARMA 2 (think of Half-Life 2's Episodes)
If you do have ARMA 2 you will be able to use all of its content (units, campaign, missions) in Op. Arrowhead - it should be backwards compatible
Most of the improvements should be available for ARMA 2 in the form of free patch(es), this includes engine bug fixes
More info will be known from the GamesCom that will take place between August 19 and August 23 2009 in Cologne, Germany (BIS should have their stand in Hall 04.2, booth L034 - part inaccessible for the general public - source), there will be another "surprise" we will learn from there
The expansion is a joint effort by IDEA Games (BIS, Black Element Software, ALTAR Games)
ALTAR has started working on the expansion in January 2009, later they have been joined by art designers from BIS. Programmers from BIS have joined them now too.

Starting to look more like things that SHOULD have been put in standard ARMA 2 but didn't really fit the look they were going for.
Better not come out soon, you'd think they would give ARMA 2 a chance. Or at least they shouldn't have anounced it this soon.

It's an expansion, meaning that upon it's release arma 2 (stock) won't drop off and die, if anything it will increase the player base. Personally - the sooner I get all these new toys the better.

So do I! When they first started making Arma...they stated that "you will be able to enter 80% of the buildings" which never happened!
They have a tail gunner in the chinook at last

I'm jsut happy that the engine updates and tech rollouts are going to be implimented into Arma 2 through patches. Should improve the user base somewhat.

In ym opinion the features they have present warrant a standalone product. However it should still be under $50 otherwise they will get no sales. It seems like they are not trying to rip anyone off with the expansion and Bohemia have been really good to their communtiy so I have faith in their ability to make a good product. I have always wanted to see the ArmA 2 engine in a desert environment due to its graphical detail and now I have the chance. Hold on and wait for more deatils before you pass judgement
