Description:
"Many have dreams. IceBreakr's dreamt of an island that many ArmA 2 players could enjoy, along with his team of dedicated mil-sim gamers. He put on his yellow working helmet, rolled up his sleeves and started building and building and building, until his dream become reality. It took, time, energy and a lot of dedication but after three months he has succeeded - its here: Island Panthera v2!"
Author:
IceBreakr is coming from Slovenia, Europe and he's been a level designer for other games/simulations for more than 10 years now. Right after the release of Czech version of ArmA: Armed Assault, game soon became his passion and he formed a strong Slovenian community of mil-sim gamers supporting him in organizing and creating multiplayer coop/PvP events. Lack of islands made him switch to ArmA/ArmA 2 map making.
What is Panthera:
Name Panthera itself comes from Slovenian history of "black panther" crest and the map itself is based on the real height data of Slovenia's Northwest part in Europe - named Gorenjska Region.
"Gora" in Slovenian means mountain and Gorenjska region (represented in Panthera) certainly lives up to its name being home to most of Slovenia’s biggest mountains, including the highest of them all – Triglav (three heads) standing at an impressive 2,865 metres. The Julian Alps and the beautiful Triglav National Park are the main features of the region – offering not just outstanding scenery, but a wealth of plant and animal life and an abundance of outdoor activities. It is also home to the unforgettable lakes Bled and Bohinj. It is almost impossible to decide which one you prefer – Serene Bohinj and its majestic mountain setting or fairytale Bled with its seventeenth century church on an island overlooked by a castle perched on a rocky outcrop.
Fantasy story with the new ArmA island:
Massive climate changes rocked the entire world and heavy ocean flooding left only numerous islands. Panthera is luckly one of them, but people didn't unite in this disaster - army is able to protect only major towns, villages form their own protection squads and neighbouring countries (in order to survive) invade the last island between newly formed sea. Armor is scarce, but four airports serve as an air bridge for more equipment and weapons...
Interesting facts:
* Gorenjska region is in fact NW part of Slovenia in Europe and of course in RL it isn't an island.
* due to heavy real-life vegetation and gameplay issues author' had to resize a sector of ~40x40 klicks (kilometers) down to 10km x 10km terrain, quite enough for a small infantry operation supported by light armor and choppers. Of course jets and heavy armor can be used too but it requires a lot of skill and tactics in such harsh terrain. Large mountains and deadly valleys can be tough even for the most experienced fighters. Roads are basically only way to travel around, but dense vegetation and many chokepoints can be fatal for a single vehicle or even an armoured convoy. Therefor recommended way of travel is tabbing aka on foot.
* first plan has been to create an entire Slovenia (of course resized to ArmA), but too many details were lost on mountain ranges. Slovenia is very similiar to other European countries with vast forests and rich vegetation.
* real-life counterpart towns in the area had to be resized to small villages, couple of them listed here: Radovljica, Bled, Jesenice, Mojstrana, Kranjska Gora, Kobarid, Tolmin, Bohinjska Bela, etc. Map now features over than 60 settlements/places, of course much smaller than real life counterpart.
* texture is based on 10240x10240 composite of various satellite images and photoshopped in couple of places.
* there are four airports present:
- Lesce (real one is cessna/soaring plane capable, but in-game runway is the sake of gameplay paved and much bigger, so fighters & transport planes can use it)
- Bovec (real one, small for mainly helicopter operations or for very very daring pilots)
- Arnoldstein (fake one, Arnoldstein doesn't have one in RL, but this one has been added for better gameplay and mission makers' ideas coming to life. It supplies Tarvisio on SW.
- Smugglers (another fake one, this one stands in the desert and locals use it for smuggling operations in and out of the island), supplies the Town of Skooma.
* Almost everything exists in the real World. Desert part on the SE is created from the scratch and therefor fake - Slovenia doesn't have deserts. Reason: more diversity
* roads are based on real-life data and cover all sectors of the map.
* first try to explore the island by positioning your squad on one of the four airports and launch vehicle and air patrols from there. Don't forget to visit highest peak Triglav
That is an awesome piece of work!
Very Nice!

- Outlook
- 145 new, smaller objects
- Parking lots
- Roadsigns/Signposts
- Advertisements
- Street Name signs
- Potato plant

- 4 new bird species
- Five to six times bigger than Utes ( km˛)
- No Airport
- Nine cities/villages

<LINK 20MB>Sbrodj features:
- 2 main bases/airports [AI friendly],
- 2 disused WW2 bases for skilled pilots only.
- 2 main towns Severnsk and Zuud,
- one main ruined town, Sbrodj the former capital town,
- many villages, 2 of them ruined,
- a railway network in the North-East part,
- 2 dams
- some bridges,
and 2 small islands to be used in Warefare ...
The main issues for players are the bumpy roads.
I have already spend too long hours waiting for "road smoothing" witout too much results.
The other source of concern if low FPS and even freeze -on low end PC- at Severnsk and Zuud approach due to the use of many enterable buildings.
The main issue for AI are the "rivers" even if the fording places are numerous and engeneered for AI.
1. Start Web-Client -Press 1 then enterHere's the first Beta release of my map "Aiaktalik" project for ArmA II. The 10x10km map features a remote and barren desert terrain with plains, hills and mountains, it is inspirated and loosly based on some environments seen in Afghanistan or Arizona USA. I've created the map mainly as a sandbox/playground to be used at our Coop community, the 6th Sense. The map is mainly created for infantry battles, i've focussed on overview and cover. You will find lots and lots of cover of the massive ammounts of rocks, furthermore the terrain is lightly covered with pine-trees. At the moment there are no human created objects or features to be found on the map. Maybe in a future update i will add some trails and tracks to have the AI move around a little bit better.

I can make some for the islands if people are interested in getting them - I'll try and get them up on yoma's once we have some made, that way people only have to sync with that to find what we're running![]()
I wouldnt mind doing some missions on Panthera if AEF members had the island.![]()

after checking out most of the above, i would consider my top 3:
aiktalek - lots of a-stanish terrain, open areas for cav missions. Probably needs to some compounds and villages put in it, but even without man made items its still got all sorts of interesting areas to use tactically
chellu - not very big but a nice balance of terrain, small populated areas
quesh kibrul - small again but some nice desert/ME type of terrain with some good sized built up areas for CQB / MOUT
aiktelak is the biggest terrain addon, but its also likely the one that will see lots of development and will be updatable via sixupdater
i will make new missions on this one in near future if we intend to support it for general use
Yes aiktelak is an awsome map, Was fooling around last night with it and set my self up on a hill with plenty of SMAW rounds and sandbag defences, added about 10 T90 groups with 5 supporting infantry groups and was pinned for an hour  which gave me an Idea for a Hold your ground mission btw.

just updated the ones available on six updater. in the case of aiaktalik, big mistake, looks like utter garbage now. with way too many rocks strewn around.

Added to server and Six updater
STORY & FEATURES
Duala is a fictional ~56km2 (10x10km map) big island, divided into two waring countries: Afrene on South and Molatia on North. River divides the two countries with a buffer-zone in between, monitored by international peacekeepers.
Vegetation
African vegetation can be seen everywhere: towns, savannah, desert and jungle. Duala is pretty dry land, but some areas near water feature lush forests. Savannah covers most of the land, while sand and mud is around river beds and beaches. There are no large hills, rare feature rock formations. Guys travelling savannah will find shelter from the sun under acacia trees. Some water rich areas feature thick undergrowth with large datepalm trees and other palms and bushes.
Military installations
Biggest strategic importance in both countries have airports. There are two major ones used for military and also civilian traffic. Two more are dirt runways (NW Molatia and SE Afrene) and used mainly by small planes. There's a word that drugs and weapons are shipped in and out of the country this way.
Border & Buffer zone
Afrene didn't build fence wall, but Molatia constructed it all along the border marking their territory they gained in 10-year war. After peace treaty Afrene and Molatia build couple of outposts along the border. There's no confirmation on mine fields, but in decade long war a lot of them were placed and later removed by international mine clearing teams. Afrene built a wall around a border town on East in order to stop Molatian terrorists travelling around. Both sides also have powerful air radars covering most valleys. Afrene set up a heliport near border to stop smuggling operations. Molatia uses helicopters stationed far North in safe cover of thick jungle. There is a rumor that jungle outposts also house Russian instructors training local troops, but there is no official word on that.
Settlements and towns
Both Afrene and Molatia have capitol towns: Kinsella and Balabango. Slums can be found in both, majority of people living on Duala are very poor. Smaller towns feature markets, industrial compounds, rent houses, offices, etc. All towns and villages are marked on map.
Sightseeing tips
We don't want to give out info, because we want you to explore! Rent a car from airports or travel in old An-2 to see all the places and pick out favourite spots! There is a nice lake in central Molatia and almost all seaside towns rent out villas. Special adventure is going into jungle on SE part of island where old villages are located. Be extra careful on roads: many of them are in terrible condition and accident can be just around the corner! Its a pretty bad thing when you smash up your vehicle and there is a big desert between you and a nearest town. Therefor military uses mostly UH1 and Mi-17 transport choppers. Foot patrols are only way in jungle, but car convoys can be great in vast savannah. Be sure to keep eye on gas meter since travelling around whole island can empty it up pretty fast. But don't worry, gas stations can be found near all big towns.
Mission possibilities
Hopefully players of OFP Tonal will switch to Arma 2 to enjoy our new African themed island. It allows mission makers to perform a huge variety of scenarios on it.
Hopefully someone will make use of a new Arma2 patch 1.05 mode Diplomacy to make a war between two countries and maybe even throw in a third rebel side.
I had to check it out
