Re: HOMEWORK: Handy Reading & Important Info for Ka-50 pilots

I just added an old PDF I have.

    Fundamentals of Flight.
    Sections include:
    - Theory of Flight
    - Hovering
    - Autorotation
    - Maneuvering Flight
    - Rotary Wing Operations
    - Night Vision
    - Rotary Wing Terrain Flight
    - Formations
    - Cold Weather Operations

OK, 99% of this doesn't pertain to our game. I find trying to incorporate real world tactics into a videogame normally doesn't work, for example, I can't do advanced squad movement to Battlefield 2. Then trying to make each session modeled as close to RL as possible would only zap the fun out of it, and it's not what we are about.

But this is just interesting to read, and can change how you walk into the next battle session. Things like just taking it slow and low, using the terrain to mask you, using your peers eyes in communication in teams, and just understanding the genre and the limitations of a helicopter a little bit more. Hope you have fun with it.

WARNING: don't print it out. I got a department in the government to print all my stuff because in a roundabout way my tax pays for that paper anyway. But it's 1 1/2 inches thick. And apart from a very few select sections it's not worth a full ink canister, and a tree of paper.

Frederf wrote a cool bit about straffing with Cannons and rockets, worth the read.

Added: Programmable HOTAS Joysticks Guide - SimHQ. Handy for guys thinking about updating their sticks and gear.

Also I have moved this into the 161 Sqn Hanger 'Public' forum so new recruits, visitors, and non-161 pilots can benefit from these linkies.

    Enjoy.

Crow, sorry resurecting an old thread. But seeing as I'm just getting back into it. I remember a post or something, about key binding for the X-52. I've got a print mapping the buttons for the joy stick, but misplaced the bindings for the throttle.

Starting all over again, so it's taking a bit to get remapped again.

I'm finding this useful for getting up to speed on the Ka-50, interactive (in-game, like the A10 & P51) training for DCS World 1.2.0

Helpful hint. 3&4 on key board zooms abris in and out. Frees up having to use mouse.
