I'll be there. The Ford seems to be slightly faster than the Audi, but harder to handle. Although the Audi has a nasty habit of digging trenches in corners. The Abarth is a lot quicker and stable, but much less fun.

The view from the rear of the grid!

    Quick Comparo - Saturday 16 Jan 16
    Car, RSR Record, Theoretical Best
    Ford Escort 2:17:203 2:17:041
    Abarth Assetto Corse 2:15:363 2:15:182
    Audi Sport Quattro 2:16:323 2:16:286

The three cars selected for this Saturday evening's race with their current RSR World Record laptime for Mugello is displayed above. A little surprised to see the Ford Escort as the slowest, perhaps due to a lack of data. I thought it was quite competent around the track and could suit those not interested in the garage. The Audi felt like a big sedan compared to the other two. The bonnet dives under braking on the soft suspension (compared to the other two) and once committed to braking don't pump the brake as weight transfer will upset the car. Don't attack the corners with the Audi, but if you want to practice the "slow in, fast out" technique this is the car for you. Does not like rough handling but surprisingly quick once you learn to drive it.

The surprise on the RSR boards was the Abarth. The modern brakes and suspension make this a predictable car to drive. Does not have the legs down the main straight but makes up for it in the twisty stuff. To get the best out of it will mean a trip to the garage to fine tune the handling - get the back tyres working and tone down the understeer.

The Escort and the Quattro can make 20 laps without stopping for fuel. So the "honour" system will be tested if we want to enforce the compulsory pitstop. These cars also have the "Stop'n'Go" option if they do not need anything from the pit. While the pit stop is a bit of a moot point it does even the playing field for the Abarth in this instance.

Guy's... Races can sometimes be "Won or Lost" in pit stop strategies, as in RL races.

Apart from the ol' Less fuel = Faster times scenario ...(ie: Less fuel to start - Pitstop add fuel?).
It might also pay to take note of the x300% tyre wear rate enforced by the server for this race ...(ie: New fast tyres start - Pitstop change tyres?).
Of course it all depends on the time differences gained (or lost) spending that little (but precious) extra time in the pits, versus.. Starting with a heavy (slower front of race) fuel load with a quick (no tyre changes) "Stop'n Go", risking worn tyres at the back end of the race that may cause slower lap times or even off's costing you positions in the field.

No doubt there will be some interesting time gain or the safer time loss combinations when choosing your pit stop strategy for this race.. (and even more so when in multi pit stop races).

I'm probably still not able to race just yet.... So good luck y'all.

    I might just add...
This is fantastic seeing AEF|RT Drivers really getting into studying and discussing car performances and these sort of strategic intricacies in prep for our upcoming AEF|RT Championship races..... Bring it on!

I agree with EMPTYBOX. Starting green or dusty helps improve driving alround. And why not take advantage of these extra features in the game?

Yes all AEF|RT races start in a "green" grip value (or very close to it).. and goes up (and down) in value dynamically as used.

EG: Grip may improve from 95/96 to 100 in a long or busy session, but will only transfer 90% of what it reached (rubbered up) to a new session to replicate things like a drop in track temperature by not having cars on it causing friction.
It also has a random variation of 2% just to chuck an unpredictable spanner in the works like RL, I'm presuming to cater for ambient or cloud shadows that can also change the track temperature...... lol.

    Hi Guys,

Grandma is unwell, Pharangitis or something, fever, etc.
So will not be able to make it tonight, unless the drugs do an amazing job.

    Good racing!

My Thoughts on the GT3 car selection. Maybe you are interested.
I tested at Monza as its flat-ish and kinda suits a standard setup. I tested all cars with standard setup (medium tyres and whatever fuel load it comes with. I think 30L) to get the fuel load. Fuel rating based on how many laps I could do with 10L, 3laps would be 5/10. This is just my experience only. Hot lap was optimum track and whatever tyres.

    SCG-003C:
    fuel 4/10.
    Good top speed 269Klm/h
Made the tyres last but a little hard to get good lap times.
I wanted to like this one. With soft tyres, 14 laps and low fuel I managed 1:55.380

    Merc AMG GT3
    Fuel 7/10
    OK speed 266Ks
Good with tyres. Looks after them and handles pretty much the same as they wear. Must be careful with the Tourque.
Time 1:54.435 11 laps and soft tyres

    Skyline.
    Fuel 4/10
    OK speed 267Ks
Bigger front window. Drifty in 3rd. Fun to drive
Time with M tyres and 10 laps 1:54.058

    Merc SLS
    Fuel 6/10
    Speed 263Ks
Also good size window and a dash with loads of room to place telemetry. Although slow top speed an boring at first I found that excitment came when I hammered it through corners where the other cars could not. It was easy to be consistent also.
    Time M tyres and 12 laps 1:54.579

    Mclaren MP4
    Fuel 7/10
    264Ks
Good screen, good dash. Hard to find the race line.
Time with M tyres and 10 laps 1:55.519

    McLaren 650s
    Fuel 7/10
    Bad top speed 261Ks
Good breaks, good consistency with tyres.
    Time M tyres 5 laps 1:56.211

    Audi R8
    Fuel 9/10
    268Ks Nice
Slides but is easy to catch, responds well even on worn tyres.
Time on M tyres and only 4 laps 1:53.870

    BMW Z4
    Fuel 8/10
    268Kz
Large display/decent window. Good slides, good breaks.
    Time M tyres and 5 laps 1:54.661

    Lambo Huracan
10/10 fuel. A whole extra lap
    276Ks Bloody fast
Very slidy 4 wheel drifting. not much screen but ok.
Time 1:54ish. I didnt record it because I have gone faster after making adjustments. 1:53.054

but So what will I drive? Z4 is my first but maybe that consistent Merc or the R8

I did a bit of testing at spa the other week and also noticed that the audi and lambo are way ahead of the others.

The mercs are heaps of fun

Sorry guy's.. I got distracted setting up the DR Championship Server most of the day for it's 12week/12 events/144 stages ... and just plain forgot.
Luckily our fearless AEF|RT 2IC jumped in at the last minute (Cheers Felix) and managed to get our public "Lotus Evora GX Single Make Race" underway at "Nurburgring" that attracted a full house grid (again).. which is very pleasing, aswell as great viewing.

Congratulations to "AEF Etch" for a tremendous race win!... WD.
